WORD FROM THE WORKBENCH

Model Makers Comments:
Producing a faithful 1:6 scale replica of the 1963 console offered the usual challenges that come with exacting reference from over 40 years ago.

This was helped mainly due to the extensive knowledge of model maker Ian Crichton and some intensive research.

We are still in discussions regarding the colour the final piece will be painted.

The original studio prop was painted in various shades of green in order that the console stood out in the studio recordings. However, this might look a little odd on a model.

Our other thought was that as the console was only ever seen by the viewer in black & white, that our replica should be painted in monochrome.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote on their preferred colour scheme for the Tardis Console. We are happy to announce that the majority preference was for the console to be painted the colour of the original studio prop.

Please see photographs on the Tardis Console page of prototype model painted in final colour scheme.

It has a fun project to work on. It has been a privilege to be producing the first ever accurate licensed reproduction of the original Tardis console. (We have given it six sides haven’t we?)
